The new Blues Traveler Album “Blow up the Moon” is out, and it features collaborations with 12 different artists.  But this is just the latest album to pair superstars, which it turns out can mean great music and big business.

According to the band’s keyboardist Ben Wilson and Vibe Magazine’s Editor-In-Chief Datwon Thomas, the added promotional power of combining two big names can often translate into a more robust bottom line.

And it looks like those collaborations are indeed paying off.  The Tony Bennett-Lady Gaga album debuted at number one and the Rihanna, Kanye, McCartney collaboration was Paul McCartney’s first top ten song as a solo artist in 29 years, so perhaps we’ll see the same effect on Blues Traveler.
